As we continue to examine Artificial Intelligence‘s uses and the new possible ways it can contribute to the industry and further enhance safety onboard, one company has integrated it into a system that allows vessels to have an advanced lookout at work 24 hours a day.
SEA.AI is a leader in the field, pioneering the first AI-driven anti-collision camera system for the maritime industry in 2018 – an innovation towards increasing safety at sea. In the subsequent years, they expanded and improved their offerings, developing one product in particular that is designed to offer the next level of safety to the superyacht industry – The Sentry.

“Our leadership in maritime machine vision is built on robust, well-tested algorithms, supported by a proprietary database we began building in 2019,” says Marcus Warrelmann, CEO of SEA.AI. “With the Sentry system, we’ve developed the most advanced AI-powered floating hazard detection solution in the maritime industry, ensuring no detail goes unnoticed.”
What is Sentry?
The Sentry is a high-performance hardware unit that includes the latest in camera technology combined with state-of-the-art AI-driven image processing. It provides 360° surveillance of the vessel to enhance navigational safety, warning the crew of approaching boats and a range of objects on the surface of the water within a set alarm radius.

Operating day and night, combining thermal and optical cameras, the Sentry processes images from nearfield to the horizon up to 1.6 nautical miles. The sophisticated AI interface has been trained to learn and identify various objects.
“Our Sentry system enhances maritime safety and security by acting as an untiring 24-hour lookout, providing early and reliable alerts about floating hazards that may be missed by conventional systems such as radar or AIS,” Warrelmann explains.

By providing real-time and accurate detection, Sentry plays a crucial role in promptly alerting the crew of potential hazards, giving them more time to make crucial navigation decisions and aiding in accident avoidance.
Why Choose Sentry?
Sentry’s continuous monitoring capabilities, day and night, guarantee enhanced situational awareness, contributing to peace of mind whilst at sea. With each software update the system becomes more advanced, adding more to the already comprehensive list of detectable objects. The system also integrates harmoniously with the existing bridge systems and can be used across multiple devices.
“Our technology integrates seamlessly with existing helm displays and bridge systems,” Warrelmann adds. “The Sentry system is also accessible across tablets, smartphones, and computers, offering significant convenience and flexibility for users.”
