Big service from a small team - a glimpse into the world of bespoke yacht management

Here at DSNM we work closely with yacht management companies every day, providing our specialist navigation services as part of the support they give to Superyacht clients. We’re often asked about those we work with so we invited Stephen Brew to give us the following insight into his company – CEC Yacht Management.

Based on the Isle of Man, CEC is a family-run business and was established in 2015. With over 12 years’ experience in the industry and working for leading global ship managers, we decided that setting up our own bespoke management company would enable us to focus on delivering exceptionally high-quality service for clients.

At the heart of everything we do is our focus on helping owners find the simplicity, transparency and value for money they want from their yacht operation. We never forget that yachting is to be enjoyed. Of course, the fun has to be had in a safe and professional environment but we can help achieve that with minimal hassle for clients by mitigating the frustrations of bureaucracy, hidden costs and administration.

Operating as a small and highly experienced team we are perfectly suited to meet the expectations of Superyacht clients that require a highly responsive and personalised service. Each of them benefits from direct contact with our top level experienced professionals, all of whom are industry-leading in their area of expertise.

Together, our team spans a broad spectrum with a full package of services that includes Technical and Compliance Management; Safety Management Systems; Project and New-build Management, Yacht Administration (budgeting, financial accountability, payment of suppliers and crew credit cards), Crew Management (search & selection, travel, payroll) and Purchasing. We also coordinate & assist with other areas of yacht ownership including insurance, finance and corporate ownership structuring for the yacht itself as well as tenders and ‘toys’.

Working closely with owners, captains and crew we form long term partnerships and become a trusted support and extension to their team. Our Shore-based support is a great help to captains and can include everything from obtaining a cruising permit to organising a security team for transiting the yacht through a high-risk area.

One thing is for sure in the world of yacht management, there’s always great variety and something to keep us busy in the quest to maximise the enjoyment of Superyacht ownership for our clients. Even so, living and working on the Isle of Man enables us to enjoy a great work/life balance. While our clients are relaxing at the next port of call and not in need of my help, I might be found supporting my childhood rugby team or perhaps “teaching” my two-year-old son to incubate and hatch dinosaur eggs…or are they duck eggs?
