EML Charters

As a family-owned and run company, dsnm is always interested in chatting with other companies structured and formed similarly. EML Charters is one of those businesses, so we caught up with the dynamic brother and sister duo, Co-Owners Ollie and Victoria, to talk about how they became a positive story during the pandemic times.

They are passionate about boating and bring their passion to the business to offer unbeatable adventures on both the Solent and the River Thames in high-end luxury boats. With the sun finally shining (in the UK), and summer on the horizon, now might be the time to make the most of the warm weather and experience one of their illustrious charters.

A boat on the water

Where it Started

EML Charters Solent was founded in 2020 by Michael Saunders, Ollie Saunders and Victoria Saunders. In a fragile year for most due to the unwelcome COVID pandemic, many companies were limiting their risk. But the Saunders family saw a niche in the market and took a risk as they set out on their new endeavour to offer luxury charter experiences on the southern UK Solent waters.

“We noticed a huge gap in the market during this time, offering amazing days out on the water in the comfort and safety of your own private boat,”  Victoria says.

No strangers to the water, Ollie and Victoria spent many a day boating on the Solent and the River Thames from an early age. A passion shared by the whole family, they grew up chartering boats on the Solent and even abroad, learning along the way what makes for a great charter experience and what customers are looking for. This first-hand knowledge has helped them in their vision to deliver unforgettable days out for families and businesses on The Solent.

“We want to give our customers the ultimate day out on the water and ensure that we plan their day from the moment they step onto the boat from when they step off, taking all stress out of the day,” Victoria says.

In EML’s inception in 2020, Michael and Victoria initially steered the business, until Ollie was able to transition from his finance role in 2021 to join his sister at the helm, with Michael stepping back from the business. From this point onwards, working as a brother and sister duo, they’ve experienced an escalation of success year upon year with a steady expansion of their fleet.

“One of the questions we always get asked is how do you make it work working together (as brother & sister)? Our answer is that we have always been close and the fact we get to do what we love every day makes it even easier,” Ollie says.

The Fleet

They have a diverse selection of well-maintained and luxurious boats, catering for a variety of charter experiences.

Beginning life with a fleet of just two vessels: a Sunseeker Predator and an Axopar 28 Cabin. The company swiftly gained traction, expanding its offerings in 2021, adding a new Axopar 28 T-Top. Following a successful 2021, they continued to build on their fleet with the addition of a Sunseeker Superhawk 34, which is offered both bareboat and skippered. Their latest addition is a bespoke, one-of-a-kind 10m Cobra Rib, tailored exclusively for chartering.

“All our boats are top-of-the-range models fitted with the most up-to-date technology. When customers turn up at Hamble Point Marina, we ensure they a greeted by a boat that is spotless and ready to go,” says Ollie.

Their offering is unique to the market currently. With EML, you have access to a range of luxury boats for hire with no long-term commitment.

“It’s always been important to us that we never transition to the boat club model. Our aim is for our customers to have all the benefits of luxury boats at their fingertips, and with no monthly fee,” says Victoria.

On The Solent

Nestled between the Isle of Wight and mainland UK, The Solent offers a stretch of water that plays host to a range of sea vessels from, sailboats to dinghies and larger boats such as passenger ferries and cruise liners. The fleet of EML vessels joins these seafarers to provide a luxury link from Ocean Village in Southampton to a variety of choice spots on the Isle of Wight.

EML’s strategy for delivering an exceptional experience was simple yet effective – team up with the top restaurants along The Solent. In just a few years, they’ve already established strong partnerships with favourites like The Hut in Colwell Bay, The Mermaid Garden and House Cowes, both located in Cowes. These affiliations provide EML customers with access to exciting activities and diverse culinary delights.

On the Thames

With the want never to stand still, EML is always looking for unique opportunities to offer clients on the water. Their latest offering is to be able to cruise The Thames and experience the rich history of the waterways.

EML Charters Thames packages deliver relaxing cruises on board modern yet classically styled boats on the outskirts of the hustle and bustle of the capital. Guests can enjoy skippered charters past a range of historic attractions, charming villages and pastoral surroundings with riverside dining in a selection of lavish restaurants.

Where it’s Going

With the new addition of the Cobra Rib to their fleet, EML is more excited than ever about the 2024 season and is focused on ensuring it is the best season to date.

“The new 10m Cobra Rib has opened up a lot of new avenues for 2024. We’ve priced her very competitively, and as she has a capacity of up to 12 passengers, she is the perfect vessel for celebrations, corporate events and larger family gatherings,” says Victoria.

EML Charters is a great example of turning tough times into something amazing. The brother and sister team have turned their love for boating into a successful business, with their growing fleet of first-class, well-maintained boats and a dedication to creating unforgettable experiences.

Join EML Charters and experience the best of boating. It’s all about making memories on the water with a team that loves what they do.
